Family education is the third and most important facet of our school’s mission. Hyde's Family Learning Center (FLC) is designed to emphasize, foster and develop family renewal by bringing students and parents together to focus on their personal growth. Hyde-DC believes that home is the "primary classroom,” supporting the character development we work to instill in our students.
Parents of Hyde-DC students are required to participate and fulfill FLC commitments throughout the year. These include off-site retreats, monthly parent discovery group meetings, family weekends, and The Biggest Job workshops, which are focused on the 10 priorities.
Parent volunteers and parent visitors are always welcome at Hyde! Our open door policy encourages parents to become active participants in the education of their children. The FLC office is staffed with a coordinator designated as a parent liaison for each school (Elementary, Middle and High). The coordinators assist parents, students, and teachers as we work together to help our students to reach their unique potential.
Parents can choose to serve on school committees that help shape academics and programs at our school. Committees at every school level (Elementary, Middle and High Schools) permit parents to work directly with the school administration to achieve short- and long-term goals for that age group.
Parents also play a role in the governance of Hyde-DC. Our charter requires that two parent representatives serve on our Board of Trustees. These Board representatives directly participate in school governance and represent parent and school interests at the highest level.
