Sports participation is a requirement of all Hyde Leadership Public Charter School students and carries the same importance as academics. We believe that participating in sports reinforces many of the core principles that Hyde hopes to instill in our student body. Athletics provides an excellent opportunity to develop and test strength of character.
Hyde-DC understands and expects that sports will be difficult and challenging for many students. Students are encouraged to go after their “personal best.” We strive to build a "winning" attitude in every student that will lead to his or her success in life, both on and off the athletic field.
Prior to graduation, each student must successfully complete a minimum of three sports activities with passing grades from their coaches. Grades are focused on “attitude and effort” and not ability or achievements. A student's “attitude and effort” are measured by attendance at practice and games; participation; effort; committment to personal and team best; behavior; and sportsmanship (respect for coaches, teammates and opposition).
Hyde-DC Charter School offers three seasons of sports. Fall Sports include Football, Cheerleading, Boys and Girls Soccer and Girls Volleyball. Winter Sports include Boys and Girls Basketball, Cheerleading and Wrestling. In the Spring, Boys and Girls Rugby and Cheerleading are offered.
